Bristol Festival of Nature (FoN) - SCCT Success
written by Monty Halls (Senior) - Sec SCCT
The two days Sat/Sun 18th and 19th June at the FoN in Bristol proved to be extremely successful for the SCCT. Held in central Bristol in an area equivalent to two football pitches (and crowds to match !), the event 'buzzed' with a lively 'interactive' theme. People visiting our marquee (there were hundreds) ranged from families with 2 - 3 children out for a 'fun day' to well-qualified marine biologists and zoologists ! For us, it proved to be an exercise in adaptive mental and physical gymnastics !! We distributed about 350 leaflets and the 'Children writing about the Oceans' sheet was well-received !We also managed to gain many useful academic and media contacts. In general, the opportunities for 'networking' and information spreading were unsurpassed since our formation in 2007 !! We are hoping to go along again next year - ideally part of a 'joint effort' (along with other major conservation charities) under one large marquee with a banner of 'Land and Marine Conservation'. Do come along next year (about mid-summer) - it was a lot of fun !!
